Marcel -Scientist Of The Day

On Friday we had Marcel be our scientist of the day.  The experiment was called Eggshell Power and it was very exciting to watch.  We watched Marcel stack books onto 4 half eggshells to see how much weight they could hold.  They held 12 books before breaking!

Henri - Scientist Of The Day

On Thursday, Henri was our scientist of the day.  Henri had a very exciting experiment called hot and cold hands.  Henri had a volunteer put one hand in cold water and one in hot water.  They then put both hands in warm water showing how the hands felt different as they adjusted to the new temperature.

Emily - Scientist of the Day

On Tuesday, we had Emily perform the Soap Boat experiment to the class. She did a great job of demonstrating with a cardboard boat and a piece of soap, how a change in surface tension can move an object through water.  Great job!

Fun with Math

Today the children worked in pairs to count large groups of beads.  They had to develop a strategy that would make counting over 100 items easier.  Some partners made groups of two or five or ten.  They decided that making groups of ten was the best strategy.  They had such a great time and did an excellent job of counting all those tiny beads!

Ava - Scientist Of The Day

Ava was our Scientist of the Day on Thursday!  She presented the Burning The Candle At Both Ends experiment.  By teetering a candle and lighting both ends, Ava made the candle teeter back and forth as the sides dripped enough wax to become lighter.  She did an awesome job with her presentation!

Emma- Scientist Of The Day

Emma presented the Ice and String Experiment on Friday.  She did a wonderful job showing how salt can melt ice. Emma sprinkled salt onto a floating ice cube with a piece of string on top.  The salt melted the ice cube and the cold water refroze quickly allowing the string to be frozen to the ice cube.  Great job Emma!
